In an exclusive article for FE Week, Fiona Aldridge, CEO at Skills Federation, argues that the announcement of V Levels is an opportunity to raise the status of vocational training and bring coherence and clarity – provided they are designed and delivered effectively.

Fiona argues that while the ambition behind V Levels is sound, success will depend on learning from the implementation of T Levels and ensuring alignment with employer needs.

“V Levels could be a gamechanger,” she says, “but they will only succeed if they are built on a foundation of clarity, coherence, and collaboration. If we get this right, we can create a system that truly values vocational education – and delivers for learners, employers, and the economy alike.”

She calls for clear communication, robust quality assurance, policy stability and a joined-up approach to progression pathways so that learners and employers alike can see the value of the new system.
