About Enginuity
Enginuity is a charity dedicated to helping employers find new ways to close the skills gap. Our origins lie in the formation of the Engineering Industry Training Board in 1964. We help employers ensure the UK engineering and manufacturing sector has a highly skilled, globally competitive workforce now and in the future.
We offer a range of services designed to close the skills gap in the engineering and manufacturing sector. These include apprenticeship support, SME leadership courses, and policy influence across the four nations of the UK.
What recent achievements of your organisation are you most proud of?
We launched an initiative through which we aim to unite the sector in aligning our objectives and driving growth as a result. The Policy Centre for Supply Chain and SMEs is putting SME and supply chain success at the heart of policy. We are bringing together industry, industry bodies, policy organisations, and government to collaborate on the skills and policy priorities that drive growth and support a thriving and resilient supply chain.
What initiatives are you working on that you’re particularly excited about?
We produced our first SME Snapshot Report, which draws from data across the sector to spell out the pressures SMEs face. Over time we’ll be getting a clearer picture of what’s needed for smaller businesses to thrive, and tailoring our support to suit.
A recent survey showed us that three out of every four SMEs believe their business and growth opportunities have been hampered by labour and skills shortages. By bringing our insights to an aligned policy community, we can help turn the tide.
There’s also our Steph on Skills: Powered by Enginuity podcast that dives into the fascinating world of skills, innovation, and the future of engineering and manufacturing. Renowned broadcaster Steph McGovern brings insightful conversations with industry leaders, game-changers, and those shaping the skills landscape in fortnightly instalments.
What role do you see Enginuity playing in the future of your industry?
Engineering has a vital role to play in developing solutions to the significant challenges we face as a society. How do we reverse climate change? How can we better use the limited resources we have? How can we safely make the most of AI and other new technologies? Enginuity exists to make sure engineers have the right skills to help us find solutions to all these questions.
