About UKFT
UK Fashion and Textile Association (UKFT) is the largest network for fashion and textiles in the UK. As the sector’s leading trade association and Sector Skills Body, we support sustainable growth across the entire UK fashion and textile supply chain. Our network brings together brands, designers, manufacturers, suppliers, retailers, recyclers, educators and innovators to promote both their businesses and the industry as a whole, in the UK and internationally.
We provide practical advice and technical support to help member companies grow and trade internationally, including guidance on regulation, labelling, safety standards, sustainability, trade rules and Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR). With a strong focus on innovation and circularity, we are actively shaping a more sustainable future for UK fashion and textiles.
What recent achievements are you most proud of?
UKFT has led the creation of new National Occupational Standards (NOS) Suite – Sustainability in fashion and textile manufacturing, embedding practical sustainability skills – from recycling and reuse to responsible production – into everyday roles across the factory floor.
In Scotland, we supported the rollout of an updated Modern Apprenticeship at SCQF Level 5, strengthening progression pathways for apprentices, helping employers attract and train new entrants with qualifications aligned to industry needs.
We have also expanded our UKFT Approved continuing professional development (CPD) scheme, validating short courses and professional training that meet industry relevant skills requirements.
What initiatives are you particularly excited about?
In 2026, UKFT is working with Skills England to help shape assessment plan reform, ensuring frameworks reflect future skills requirements. Building on research insights, we are developing a 2027–2029 training plan to address priority skills needs and support a resilient and innovative UK manufacturing sector.
We are also strengthening our Education Partner Network and preparing for our 2026 Education Partner Conference. Alongside this, UKFT Futures continues to connect students and career changers with pathways into the sector – and we are exploring gamified interactive approaches to engage the next generation of talent.
What role do you see UKFT playing in the future of your industry?
Fashion and textiles sit at the heart of creativity, sustainability and advanced manufacturing in the UK. UKFT exists to inspire and empower the UK fashion and textile sector to recruit, train, and retain a world-class skilled workforce. Through skills development, industry innovation and sustainable practices, we aim to ensure the UK remains globally competitive while building a resilient and future-ready workforce.
