Skills Federation is delighted to announce its role as a partner in the successful tender, led by the Association of Colleges (AoC), to deliver the government-funded ‘National Technical and Vocational Subject Teaching Professional Development Programme.’

This landmark programme is designed to strengthen the capability and confidence of the further education (FE) workforce, ensuring teachers and trainers have the up-to-date skills and subject expertise required to deliver high-quality technical and vocational education.

A central pillar of the programme is ensuring that teaching is grounded in real-world practice. Skills Federation, working closely with its members and their employer networks, will play a key role in embedding this approach. Together, they will design and deliver a range of targeted professional development activities to enable teachers and trainers to deepen their understanding of current industry standards, technologies, and practices, ensuring their teaching remains relevant, engaging, and aligned with employer expectations.

By leveraging its strong links across multiple sectors, Skills Federation brings a unique employer-led perspective to the programme. Our members represent a diverse range of industries and are uniquely placed to bridge the gap between education and employment, providing valuable insights into evolving workforce needs and helping to shape high-quality teaching and learning experiences.

Fiona Aldridge, CEO of Skills Federation, said:

“We are delighted to be part of this important national programme, which will support the upskilling of teachers and trainers across the FE sector to deliver vocational and technical qualifications to the highest standard. Skills Federation and our members, who are employer led sector skills bodies, are deeply connected to employers across a wide range of sectors.

This positions us well to provide training that is not only insightful, but firmly rooted in current workplace practice. By bringing authentic employer perspectives into professional development, we can help ensure that learners are equipped with the skills, knowledge and behaviours they need to succeed in today’s labour market.”

Through its contribution to this programme, Skills Federation is committed to supporting the FE sector in delivering high-quality, industry-relevant education that meets the needs of both learners and employers, helping to build a skilled and adaptable workforce for the future.
