We have submitted evidence to the inquiry launched by the APPG on Further Education and Lifelong Learning on adult education.
While the government’s focus on supporting young people into the labour market is needed given the high NEET figures, this should not come at the expense of adult education. With 70% of the 2035 workforce already in employment, government, alongside employers, has a responsibility to ensure people can retrain, upskill and move between sectors as needed.
Our response highlights the key role that sector skills bodies can play as strategic partners for government to support the skills system to respond to employer demand and provide a collective voice on workforce issues.
